The experience of vacation can play powerfully on the memory and imagination. Anticipating beforehand and savoring in retrospect the time we spend on vacation is a balm to the feeling of alienation from ourselves and what we do with our time (our labor) that occupies the majority of our time spent living. Our last vacation was in the spring. We spent a long weekend on Orcas Island at the exquisite vacation home of one of our friends. These preserves were made from what was what could be foraged for at the time on the rocky seaside coast of the island.

Swam with a seal. Clambaked on the beach. Painted rocks. Foraged and cooked. Read and walked. Watched the waves. |
